Haz Mat Refresher

This class is an 8 hour refresher covering all aspects of a
hazmat incident. NOTE: Application made
for LET Annual In-Service Credit.
2 Day Classes
1. EVOC
Instructor:
Jason Lively
This is a combination classroom and practical skills
training course on emergency vehicle operations. Safety,
legal aspects, inspection and driver responsibilities are
covered. Both written and practical examinations are
administered. Meets WV State Fire Commission and State EMS
Initial driving training requirements and recommendations.
The course is designed to meet DOT and NFPA standards.
Students are encouraged to bring their own apparatus for the
driving part of the course. PREREQUISITES: Must have proof
of valid Operators License and be 18 yrs of age.
2. HazMat Awareness/Operations NFPA (472)
2004 Instructor: Skip Kosar
This course provides students with an understanding of the
ways to confine, contain, or divert a hazardous materials
release using defensive methods, such as damming, diking,
and diverting. The student will have the opportunity for
hands-on experience in building different types of
containment systems and setting up decontamination areas.
Class Limit: 20 FULL TURNOUT GEAR & SCBA REQUIRED. NOTE:
Application made for LET Annual In-Service Credit.

This class is designed to teach firefighters and emergency
responders the basic skills necessary to perform search and
rescue operations. Dress appropriately for the weather on
Sunday. NOTE: Application made for LET Annual In-Service

6. Rope Rescue Awareness/Operations
Instructor: Larry Helms
This course is intended to address specific rope rescue
techniques as outlined in the operations level of NFPA 1670.
Topics include: rope rescue knots, lowering and raising
systems. NOTE: Helmets, eye protection and gloves required.
7. Basic Structure Firefighting
Instructor: Larry
Couch
This hand’s on course is designed to introduce the new
firefighter to the basic fundamentals of fire ground
operations or bring the experienced firefighter “back to the
basics”. Topics to be covered will include fire suppression;
hose line advancement, forcible entry, ground ladder use,
victim rescue, SCBA confidence course, immediate reaction
drills and ventilation. This class will be held in a
controlled environment using simulated smoke. FULL TURNOUT
GEAR AND SCBA WITH SPARE BOTTLE REQUIRED.
8. Project Lifesaver
Instructors: Sue Patalano and Dave Byers
A Public Safety Program designed to protect and locate
missing persons due to wandering. This 16 hr course
combines classroom with practical exercises. Part of the
training is outdoors, please dress accordingly for the
weather. NOTE: Application made for LET Annual In-Service
Credit.
9. Auto Extrication Awareness/Operations
Instructor: Lonny Riggs
This class will meet the awareness and operations level
criteria for vehicle rescue. Scene assessment, victim and
rescuer safety, accident scene control and management will
be covered. Students will be updated on the newest vehicle
technology to include hybrid vehicles. This class will start
in the classroom and move to a hands-on operations
concentrating on disentanglement by the use of advanced
tools and techniques along with scenario activities. FULL
TURNOUT GEAR REQUIRED.
10. NIMS 400
Instructor: John
Ashcraft
This 2 day course will provide training for the advanced
application of the Incident Command System. This course is
designed for mid and upper level managers who are expected
to perform in a management capacity in an area command or
multi-agency coordination entity. Target students for this
course include personnel performing as strike team leaders,
task force leaders, unit leaders, division/group
supervisors, branch directors, Chief Level Officers and is
recommended for all Emergency Operations Center Staff. In
addition this class meets the minimum standards required by
the Federal Government for Chief Officers for Fire
Departments to remain eligible for Federal Grant assistance.
NOTE: Application made for LET Annual In-Service Credit.
Class Requirements
PREREQUISUTES:
Some classes require the student to have knowledge in
specific areas to be eligible to participate in certain
classes.
Most classes are “hands on” and therefore will be conducted
OUTSIDE in the weather so please read your course
description and dress appropriately. Other courses require
special equipment. The required equipment is listed with the
class description. If the student is required to have:
FULL PROTECTIVE GEAR,
students must have NFPA approved safety glasses, leather or
Kevlar gloves, steel toe shoes or boots, and a helmet.
NO EXCEPTIONS.
FULL TURN GEAR,
they must have NFPA approved safety glasses, helmet, nomex
hood, gloves, boots, bunker coat, and bunker pants.
NO EXCPETIONS.
SCBA AND SPARE BOTTLE,
you are responsible for supplying your own Self-Contained
Breathing Apparatus, face piece, and spare air cylinder.
SCBA cylinders will not be filled if hydrostatic test date
is expired.
